Summary

Jet Force Gemini, known in Japan as Star Twins, blends third‑person shooting with classic action‑adventure flair. Enemies swarm in massive numbers, but you never run out of ammo—grenades, pistols, machine guns, sniper rifles, flamethrowers and rockets are all at your disposal, and a manual aiming mode lets you line up shots with a translucent crosshair.

The game’s movement toolbox is surprisingly deep: jet packs let you soar, you can hang from ledges, swim, and even hover for short bursts. Each of the three heroes brings a unique talent—Juno walks through magma, Vela stays underwater forever, and Lupus hovers—so swapping characters to crack a puzzle feels rewarding.

Exploration spans fifteen nonlinear worlds, linked by doors that sometimes demand a key, a cleared area, or a special action. Health gems and ammo crates keep you in the fight, while starship parts and 282 rescued Tribals are the collectibles that unlock the final showdown.

Beyond solo play, up to four friends can duke it out in customizable deathmatches, and secret racing or firing‑range mini‑games appear once you uncover them in the campaign. A unique co‑op mode lets a second player control Floyd, a floating robot that follows the main character without split‑screen.

During development the team scrapped an Expansion Pak plan, opting to run on the standard 4 MB of RAM—a fact that caused a brief box‑label mix‑up later fixed with a sticker. Nintendo also pushed for a more mature look, replacing the original cartoon‑ish heroes, and the title saw a fresh release on the Nintendo Classics service in 2023.

Storyline

Jet Force Gemini follows the elite galactic squad Jet Force Gemini—twin siblings Juno and Vela and their loyal wardog Lupus. The trio barely escapes the annihilation of their fleet by the insectoid Mizar and finds themselves orbiting the planet Goldwood.

After their ship is boarded by Mizar’s drones, the heroes abandon it and go their separate ways to halt the invasion. Juno discovers Floyd, a small floating robot who defects from Mizar and agrees to help the team.

The reunited squad travels across several worlds, rescuing enslaved Tribals at the request of their leader King Jeff. In return, Jeff provides an ancient starship, allowing the team to chase Mizar to an asteroid on a collision course with Earth.

At the asteroid, Mizar is revealed to be a robot controlled by King Jeff’s jealous brother Barry. Floyd sacrifices himself by delivering a warhead into the asteroid’s core, destroying it just before the team escapes. Back on Earth, the Jet Force Gemini members receive the highest honors for saving the planet.
