Summary

South Park Rally on N64 lets you pick any of the show's cast and hurl ridiculous power‑ups like rockets, Salty Balls, Cheesy Poofs, the Cow and even an Anal probe. Vehicles range from tiny carts to makeshift boxes, and the original voice talent—Matt Stone, Trey Parker, Mary Kay Bergman and Isaac Hayes—fills each lap with the series’ sarcasm.

The title includes three modes: Championship, where you clear fourteen tracks to unlock characters and stages; Arcade, a practice sandbox; and Multiplayer, a chaotic 2‑to‑4 player free‑for‑all. Acclaim’s Thomas Bass said the design forces players to collide, creating “insane and wildly fun” moments that feel more like a South Park episode than a typical kart race.

Tantalus Interactive built the game in seven months with a 20‑person team, releasing it simultaneously on PlayStation, Windows, Dreamcast and N64. Hardware limits left the N64 version with the smallest roster—up to 27 characters—but fewer unlockable tracks than the Dreamcast.

Reviews were mixed: N64 Magazine gave it 88% for its innovation and full cast, while others called it a shallow cash‑in with bland graphics and repetitive sound bites. Still, the cartridge sold over a million copies on N64, showing fans loved the familiar voices and over‑the‑top weaponry.

Storyline

South Park Rally pits the town’s residents against each other in a chaotic series of races staged by the Mayor. The rally winds through the heart of South Park and its outskirts, letting players choose from a roster of familiar characters and a wild assortment of vehicles – from police cruisers and mini‑Porsches to Big Gay Al’s buggy, wheat‑bag rigs, jeeps and many more. Along the way, power‑up icons summon unexpected guests such as Mr. Hankey, Saddam Hussein, the Underpants Gnomes, Frida, Sparky and Kitty, adding a burst of mayhem to each lap. The game blends the show’s irreverent humor with over‑the‑top destruction, making every race feel like a runaway episode.
