Summary
Snowboard Kids feels like a bright, cartoon‑styled Mario Kart on a snowy hill, but it adds enough quirks to keep the experience fresh. Instead of just grabbing power‑ups, you spend 100 gold—earned by pulling off tricks or scooping up coins—to buy a "Shot" or a support item, and the game even gives you two item slots so you can fire a rock while staying invisible at the same time.
The nine courses range from classic powder slopes to an amusement park, a desert, a dark highway and a cherry‑blossom‑lit Japanese village, each packed with shortcuts, hazards and a lift gate that whisks you back to the top for the next lap, safe from attacks. This blend of whimsical settings and lap‑based racing makes every run feel like a mini‑adventure.
Six characters start the race, each with distinct speed, cornering and trick stats, and a hidden seventh unlocks after you clear all tracks. Critics praised the smooth controls, bold graphics and the depth of its multiplayer, even as they noted the game leans heavily on Mario Kart’s formula. In the end, Snowboard Kids is remembered as a charming, solid snow‑shredder that’s still fun to drop into with friends.
Storyline
In the Nintendo 64 game Snobo Kids, a group of friends can’t agree on who has the superior snowboarding skills, and their argument quickly turns into a full‑blown rivalry. Determined to settle the score, they organize a snowboarding tournament where each competitor tries to prove they’re the best on the slopes. The competition forms the core of the game’s storyline, pitting the kids against one another in a series of challenges. One hidden character, Shinobin, does not appear in the early matches at all. He only joins the action after the player unlocks him, adding a surprise element to the tournament.
