Summary
Scooby‑Doo! Classic Creep Capers drops you into a nostalgia‑packed N64 adventure where Shaggy and Scooby hunt down a ghostly crime ring across four levels. The first three stages replay beloved “Where Are You!” episodes—“What a Night for a Knight,” “That’s Snow Ghost,” and “A Tiki Scare Is No Fair”—while the fourth delivers an all‑new mystery.
The game forces you to search for clues, snap traps and keep Shaggy’s nerves in check with a “courage” meter; each scare drops him out of the scene and forces a restart. Courage can be restored by finding cafeteria snacks or stray Scooby Snacks, and clever disguises let the duo hide behind décor to avoid detection.
Development leaned heavily on original Hanna‑Barbara art, with Scott Innes providing Shaggy and Scooby’s voices and the classic theme song rebuilt for the console. The designers struggled to translate flat cartoons into detailed 3‑D environments that still felt like the TV sets, and they intentionally avoided any violence, opting for hide‑and‑sneak mechanics instead.
Critics praised the faithful character lines and detailed backgrounds, but they flagged clunky analog controls, a stubborn camera, and blurry low‑res graphics. Scores hovered around the mid‑50s, making it a mixed‑bag for collectors.
Storyline
Scooby-Doo! Classic Creep Capers on the Nintendo 64 puts Mystery Inc. on the trail of a shadowy crime ring led by a mysterious Ghoul King. The adventure is divided into four distinct levels, each presenting a new location and set of clues for the gang to solve.
The first three stages are faithful recreations of classic Scooby‑Doo, Where Are You! episodes: “What a Night for a Knight,” “That’s Snow Ghost,” and “A Tiki Scare Is No Fair.” In each, the team navigates familiar haunted settings while unmasking the villains. The final level breaks from the TV material and delivers an original mystery that ties the Ghoul King’s scheme together.
