Summary

Rugrats: Scavenger Hunt lets the babies race across three goofy boards on the N64—a pirate scuba dive, Angelica’s Aztec Temple, and a candy‑laden Reptar Rally where they become dinosaurs. Choose Tommy, Chuckie, Phil or Lil and spin a virtual spinner to move, while the original voice cast supplies fully lip‑synced jokes in brief cut‑scenes. Bright 3‑D graphics capture the cartoon’s vibe; the PAL version was titled Rugrats: Treasure Hunt.

Landing on a magnifying‑glass space triggers a search for hidden items, cookies, or dud tokens, and ‘Mystery’ squares call Dil Pickles to reshuffle the board. An energy meter restricts movement on the first two boards; hitting zero drops you in a bedroom for a quick nap before you can move again. Four players can compete, with AI filling empty slots, and toy cards or allies like Spike and Grandpa grant short‑term boosts such as extra cookies or a Reptar transformation. Reviews were mixed—praise for the voices, visuals and Mark Mothersbaugh’s music contrasted with criticism of slow, primitive gameplay—yet it still reached No. 19 on August 1999 U.S. sales.

Storyline

Rugrats: Scavenger Hunt opens with Didi setting up a board game while Grandpa Lou reads the rules, introducing the babies to the adventure. The first board, Angelica’s Temple of Gloom, drops the group into an Aztec ruin after Stu brings home replica statues; Angelica claims the pieces are cursed and shatters them, forcing the babies to recover four times the number of active players’ worth of statues before she can claim all hers. If Angelica finishes first she blames the babies and sends them to their cribs, but a baby victory returns the room to normal and the babies celebrate. The Pirate Treasure Hunt board sends the crew to a sunken ship, where Angelica pretends to have found treasure and promises the title of first mate to whoever gathers the four types of loot; Susie Carmichael appears to hand out extra pieces, and the ending shows Angelica’s “treasure” revealed as junk while Tommy insists the real prize lies in the aquarium. The final board, Reptar Rally, transforms the babies into dinosaur‑like Reptars racing through candy‑covered mountains; they must collect specific sweets by unlocking zones with keys, and the cutscene ends with Angelica tripping over a Reptar doll while trying to steal the candy.
