Rayman 2: The Great Escape shimmies onto the Nintendo 64 with an enchanted storybook visual style, vivid colours and delightfully absurd enemy designs that echo the works of Hayao Miyazaki, Tex Avery and Alphonse Mucha. The arm‑less, leg‑less hero glides through 3D platforms using his iconic hair as a helicopter, charging fist‑fired orbs, swinging across gaps on purple Lums and riding plums, rockets and other quirky items.

Gameplay is guided by a mostly player‑controlled camera, though tight angles appear in scripted moments, and collecting lums unlocks lore, hidden cages and new worlds. Storyline

Rayman 2: The Great Escape takes place in the Glade of Dreams, which is invaded by Admiral Razorbeard’s army of Robot Pirates. The invaders smash the Heart of the World, stripping Rayman of his powers and landing him in a cell aboard the pirates’ prison ship. Globox manages to slip Rayman a silver lum from Ly the Fairy, restoring his abilities and allowing a daring escape.

Separated from Globox, Rayman learns from the Teensies that he must gather four ancient magic masks—water/ice, earth/stone, fire, and air—to awaken Polokus, the world’s spirit. He travels through the Hall of Doors, rescues allies like the ailing strongman Clark, and eventually re‑unites with Globox and his wife Uglette before securing all four masks.

With Polokus revived, the spirit destroys the pirates’ ground forts, but the airborne Buccaneer still threatens the world. Rayman boards the ship, defeats Razorbeard’s giant robot Grolgoth, and watches the vessel explode. Though friends find only a single shoe and assume he is dead, Rayman returns on a crutch, alive and victorious.
