Summary

Penny Racers (known as Choro Q 64 in Japan) drops you into a bright, cartoon‑styled world where the goal is simple: finish in the top three while dodging rival missiles. The barrel‑roll trick lets you whisk past sudden obstacles, and every podium finish hands you a chance to pilfer upgrades—engine boosts, armor plates, special attacks, even cosmetic tweaks—from the losers. With 13 quirky body styles and nine wildly themed tracks ranging from bustling city streets to icy caves and a fiery volcano, the game keeps the scenery fresh. The Track Create mode lets you sketch out your own wild courses, and four‑player races crank the chaos up a notch, turning defeat into a public spectacle. Critics were split: IGN slammed the graphics and sound, GameSpot and Nintendo Power noted it fell short of Mario Kart 64 and Diddy Kong Racing, and GamePro called the visuals “cardboard‑cutout landscapes.” In Japan, Famitsu gave it a modest 25/40.
