Summary

Olympic Hockey '98 drops NHLPA pros onto the Olympic ice for the first time, letting regular‑season rivals become teammates in a true‑nation showdown. You’ll see real rosters – Kamensky and Yashin in Russia’s whites, Kariya and Roy skating for Canada, Modano and Leetch representing the United States – all rendered with graphics that were meant to make you sweat as each country battles for glory.

Behind the scenes it’s essentially a re‑skin of Wayne Gretzky’s 3D Hockey ’98, marking Treyarch’s debut as a developer. Apart from new box art, swapped team logos, and an Olympic‑sized rink, the gameplay mirrors its Gretzky predecessor, even listing player names beneath the avatars. The title offers twenty national squads from Nagano, from Austria to Japan, each competing under the same fast‑paced, arcade‑style rules.

The Japanese market received it as Olympic Hockey Nagano ’98, published by Konami. Critics were harsh – IGN handed it a zero and GameRankings settled at 44% – complaining it offered little beyond a fresh label. Still, a few outlets praised it as a solid alternative for fans craving Olympic‑themed hockey action.
