Summary

O.D.T. (O.D.T.: Escape... Or Die Trying) was slated for a Nintendo 64 release that never saw the light of day, even though a preview ran in Nintendo Power and the cartridge was fully planned. The developers carried over the core team from Adidas Power Soccer, borrowing a "futur‑anterieur" Jules Verne vibe inspired by The Chaos Engine, which gave the game a distinctive steampunk‑ish visual flair.

The cancelled N64 build would have kept the action‑role‑playing core of the PlayStation and PC versions, letting players pick from four main characters—each with a unique playstyle, like Maxx Havok’s heavy armor or Archbishop Solaar’s occult attacks. Experience points earned from combat could be spent to boost specific stats, and hidden unlockables such as Stowaway Sophia Hawkins and the renegade Karma added extra depth. Platforming sections and light puzzles rounded out the experience, promising a quirky blend of combat and exploration that never made it onto the console.

Storyline

In O.D.T. (Proto) for the Nintendo 64, you assume the role of a crew member aboard an airship tasked with delivering a magical pearl that can halt a deadly epidemic. While en route, a horde of mutants ambushes the vessel, desperate to claim the pearl for themselves, and forces the airship to crash. The wreck lands at the foot of a mysterious tower, leaving you stranded and setting the stage for a desperate quest to recover the pearl and stop the plague.
