Summary

Nuclear Strike 64 throws you into a helicopter‑centred battlefield that blends frantic aerial combat with on‑the‑fly strategy. Piloting the futuristic Super Apache—or swapping to a Cobra, a Harrier jump‑jet, an A‑10 V/STOL, even an M1 Abrams tank, Bradley, MLS or PACV hovercraft—keeps the action fresh across five sprawling terrain zones. Each large map is split into multiple missions such as seek‑and‑destroy, escort, bridge demolition or rescue, all tied together by a HUD that monitors fuel, ammo, intel and a fresh compass‑guided objective radar.

Occasionally the game pauses for real‑time strategy moments, letting you direct ground troops and coordinate attacks with AI allies. Critics praised the N64’s colourful, destructible environments, fluid explosions and atmospheric soundtrack, noting the graphics shine even without the Expansion Pak. Though small targeting quirks pop up, the blend of vehicle variety, responsive controls and balanced difficulty makes Nuclear Strike 64 a standout helitech‑shooter for the console.

Storyline

The story of Nuclear Strike 64 opens in the fictional Southeast Asian nation of Indocine. You pilot a Super Apache for the covert STRIKE unit, led by General Earle and supported by tech‑wizard Hack and operative Andrea Gray. Their enemy, Colonel Beauford LeMonde, has stolen a nuclear warhead and hides it in an old temple, forcing guerrilla leader Naja Hana to join forces with STRIKE. After a false‑bomb convoy chase, LeMonde smuggles the real nuke off‑screen and the player must extract Naja from the booby‑trapped compound.

STRIKE then moves to the South China Sea, where LeMonde is seen dealing with Napoleon Hwong, head of the Octad crime syndicate. Mercenary Harding Cash is recruited, and after battling Hwong’s pirates the team captures and interrogates him before he kills himself. Clues lead the squad to Pyongyang, where the stolen device is hidden inside Kim Il‑Sung’s statue on Mansudae Hill. Using a small helicopter and non‑lethal weapons, you rescue world delegates, hijack an AH‑1 Cobra from a museum, and watch the nuke detonate in the May Day Stadium.

The blast triggers a false‑flag accusation, prompting North Korea to invade the DMZ. STRIKE assists US and South Korean forces to repel the assault and then follows LeMonde to a Siberian fortress. There the proto‑nuclear missile is destroyed, LeMonde is killed, and Naja and Cash fall in love, leaving the team ready for the next conflict.
