Summary

Mickey's Speedway USA (sometimes just called Mickey’s Speedway) lets you zip around a quirky, Disney‑styled version of the United States in a kart‑racing showdown. The N64 version packs 20 tracks into five Grand Prix cups, each one echoing a famous American locale—from the neon streets of Los Angeles to the rugged cliffs of the Grand Canyon. Scattered across the courses are four hidden vehicle parts; collect them all and the secret final Grand Prix opens up, rewarding the most thorough explorers.

The races are peppered with "Oomph Tokens" that boost your top speed, quick‑fire boosters for a burst of acceleration, and a goofy arsenal of items—baseballs, paint cans, and even Ludwig von Drake’s wacky contraptions—to mess with opponents. The item chaos feels right at home with the cartoon vibe, and the original Disney voice work adds a playful taunt to every overtake.

Six classic characters race side by side, each paired by stats: Mickey and Donald sit in the middle, Minnie and Daisy excel at handling and acceleration, while Goofy and Pete charge ahead with raw speed and weight. This clear split lets you pick a driver that matches your play style without getting lost in a sea of options.

Grand Prix mode offers three difficulty tiers; snag a gold trophy on each and you unlock extra racers, cheat codes, and other goodies. Though the game landed with "average" reviews on Metacritic, its $5 million marketing push and the nostalgic charm of Disney‑themed karting still make it a quirky footnote in the N64’s racing library.

Storyline

In Mickey's Racing Challenge USA, Mickey learns that his pet Pluto has been kidnapped by the mischievous Weasels, who claim his collar is studded with diamonds. He quickly phones his friends—Minnie, Donald, Daisy and Goofy—to enlist help, but Pete overhears the call and tails them.

Professor Ludwig von Drake supplies each hero with a custom race car, letting the team zip across the United States while following a trail of postcards the Weasels leave behind. The postcards guide them from city to city, turning the rescue into a high‑speed treasure hunt.

After a final showdown race, the Weasels are captured and thrown in jail. Mickey reunites with Pluto, discovering the “diamonds” are merely glass beads from an old Minnie necklace, and the friends drive home satisfied.
