Summary

When I fire up Madden 2000 on the Nintendo 64, the Green Bay Packers instantly stand out with a 94 overall rating, making them the top squad in the roster. At the opposite end, the Cleveland Browns linger at a modest 68, the lowest rating you’ll find. Offensively, the Denver Broncos dominate with a 97 rating, while defensively the Miami Dolphins sit just behind at 96. Special‑teams prowess is split between the Buffalo Bills and the Atlanta Falcons, each boasting a 97 rating.
The franchise mode finally feels less like a chore; you can hand off off‑season tasks—re‑signings, releases, drafts—to the CPU, letting you focus on the on‑field action. The PC download version even forces you to input all 31 coaches from the 1999 season, a quirky requirement that never made it onto the console.
Critics were kind to the N64 version, with GameRankings aggregating an 89 % score, GameSpot giving it 9.4/10 and IGN 8.4/10. Brad Cook praised the new franchise features despite a few lingering flaws, and GamePro’s Dr. Zombie called it a “no‑brainer must‑buy” for anyone without a football game on the system.
