Summary

Jet Force Gemini blasts players into a galaxy overrun by the insectoid hordes of Mizar. The third‑person shooter lets you dash with a jet pack, swing between platforms and tear through waves of Drones using an arsenal that ranges from rapid pistols to rocket launchers, all without magazine limits.

You can pilot three uniquely skilled characters—Juno walks through magma, Vela swims indefinitely, and Lupus hovers briefly—each offering a distinct way to reach hidden star‑ship parts and the 282 Tribals you’re tasked to rescue. Secrets uncovered in the 15 nonlinear worlds unlock extra challenges, from a racing mini‑game to a firing‑range test.

Beyond the single‑player trek, the game features a split‑screen deathmatch for up to four players, with customizable weapons and time limits, plus a non‑split‑screen co‑op mode where a second player controls Floyd, a floating robot that follows your lead.

Critics lauded the vivid graphics and richly layered sound, while the steep learning curve of the manual aiming system and the necessity of rescuing every Tribal drew some criticism. Notably, Rare delivered the experience on the N64’s base 4 MB of RAM, with Rumble Pak support baked in.

Storyline

Jet Force Gemini follows law‑enforcement trio Juno, Vela and their wardog Lupus. After barely escaping the annihilation of the Jet Force fleet orbiting Goldwood, they abandon their crippled ship when Mizar’s drones board it. Juno salvages Floyd, a small floating robot who defects from Mizar and pledges help.

The heroes trek across several planets, rescuing enslaved Tribals and eventually reuniting at Mizar’s Palace. King Jeff, the Tribal leader, gives them an ancient starship on the condition they free all Tribals scattered through the galaxy. With the ship repaired, they chase Mizar to an asteroid heading for Earth.

The asteroid’s core is destroyed when Floyd sacrifices himself, and the team escapes just before impact. Back on Earth, the Jet Force Gemini crew receives the highest honors for saving the planet.
