Summary
Glover, the whimsical four‑fingered glove, roams the Crystal Kingdom on a mission to gather the scattered crystals and set the realm right again. I’m constantly guiding him as he nudges, rolls, and even slaps a magical ball toward each goal, using a surprisingly rich set of moves – from dribbling and walking atop the sphere to turning it into a trampoline, double‑jumping, cartwheeling, and even a fist‑slam that sends the ball flying.
The ball itself isn’t just a ball; it can shift into rubber, ball‑bearing, bowling, or crystal forms, each granting its own quirks, and a hidden cheat unlocks a “power ball” for extra chaos. Potions appear as temporary power‑ups, while three hearts and a checkpoint system keep the challenge fair – lose the ball or all hearts and you restart from the last save.
The adventure spans six distinct worlds, each packed with three regular stages, a boss showdown, and a secret bonus level that only appears after collecting every Garib card in that world. Critics praised the Nintendo 64 version for its inventive blend of platforming and puzzle mechanics, making Glover a memorable, if underrated, gem of its era.
Storyline
In the Crystal Kingdom, a kindly wizard rules from his Crystal Castle, where seven magical crystals sit atop the spires and keep the land in perfect harmony. A mishap with a bad batch of potions causes a massive explosion: the wizard is turned into a statue, his sentient gloves are flung apart, and the crystals are shaken loose. The right‑hand glove, Glover, flies out the window, instantly casts a spell to turn the falling crystals into rubber balls and sends six of them bouncing into six portals that lead to worlds such as Atlantis, a circus park, a pirate’s domain, a horror fortress, a prehistoric era, and outer space.
The left glove, Glovel, lands in the cauldron, becomes corrupted and reappears as the villain Cross‑Stitch, who sets traps and summons monsters to stop Glover. Guided by a living hat named Mr. Tip, Glover journeys through each realm, retrieves the rubber‑ball crystals and returns them to the castle spires, gradually restoring the kingdom’s beauty.
In the final realm Glover defeats Cross‑Stitch in a giant robot battle, after which the wizard is restored to flesh, the crystals are placed back on the spires, and Cross‑Stitch is turned back into Glovel. The three celebrate as the Crystal Kingdom returns to its idyllic state.
