Summary
Gauntlet Legends finally made its way to the Nintendo 64 in September 1999, becoming the series’ first home‑console port. The N64 version adds a full inventory system – you can stock and trigger items you find, except for the always‑on Invulnerability and Anti‑Death Halo power‑ups. A new Sumner’s tower and shop appear, giving a little extra flavor to the classic dungeon crawl. The game keeps the arcade’s level‑up mechanic, letting each of the four heroes (Warrior/Minotaur, Wizard/Jackal/Sumner, Archer/Tigress, Valkyrie/Falconess) grow Strength, Speed, Armor or Magic up to 999 points and reach level 99 via experience and gold. Progress is saved on a Controller Pak using a password system, and the Rumble Pak adds tactile feedback. Four‑player co‑op is possible, but you need the Expansion Pak; without it the game caps at three players.
Storyline
In the world of Gauntlet Legends, a greedy young mage named Garm once used a set of Runestones to summon the demon Skorne. Skorne turned on Garm, crushing him and imprisoning his soul in the Underworld, then scattered the Runestones across the four realms to keep their power from being misused. The player must travel through each realm, defeat the end‑boss of every kingdom, and claim the four golden keys that unlock Skorne’s desecrated temple. While battling through the realms, the hero also gathers the thirteen Runestones hidden throughout the lands. With the full set of stones, the adventurer can follow Skorne into the Underworld and finally banish the demon.
