Summary

Fox Sports College Hoops '99 delivers a surprisingly deep college basketball experience on the Nintendo 64, boasting a full NCAA license with over 120 real teams, authentic logos, uniforms and home courts, plus the entire tournament ladder from early‑season events through the Sweet 16 and Final Four. Player attributes and skill ratings are surprisingly granular, and the game offers three difficulty levels, easy‑to‑learn controls and several camera angles that let you chase the action from any viewpoint.

The title lets you jump into a single exhibition matchup or guide a program through a season, complete with most major conference and postseason tournaments—though the NIT is notably absent. Multiplayer is limited to two players, but the Fox Sports TV‑style presentation adds a broadcast feel, even if commentary and school fight songs are sparse.

Originally slated as an NBA title with a Michael Jordan license, the project was reshaped after BMG Interactive folded; Fox Interactive stepped in, secured the NCAA rights, expanded the cartridge’s memory and pushed the graphics into high‑resolution mode. Critics were split: GamePro praised the intelligent AI, IGN bemoaned occasional slowdown during shooting, and GameSpot dismissed it as an incomplete work in progress.
