Summary

Forsaken 64 brought the frantic corridors of the original 1998 shooter to the Nintendo 64, with Iguana UK handling the conversion. The single‑player campaign is divided into 22 missions, each forcing you to either wipe out every enemy in a twisting tunnel system or meet time‑based or kill‑percentage targets; hitting certain goals unlocks alternate routes, a mechanic that feels very reminiscent of Star Fox 64. Four difficulty tiers—easy, normal, hard and the brutal “total mayhem”—pair escalating enemy aggression with scarcer ammo, and Acclaim later released patch 1.00 to tame the near‑impossible challenge.

Multiplayer shines with six distinct modes, from classic free‑for‑all deathmatches to team‑oriented capture‑the‑flag and bounty hunts, supporting up to four human players and three AI opponents. A sequel was once planned by Acclaim Studios Teesside, but the studio’s closure in 2002 ended the dream. The N64 version even resurfaced on the Nintendo Classics service in 2025.

Storyline

Forsaken 64 takes place on a bleak, futuristic Earth in the year 2113. A catastrophic shockwave from a scientific experiment has wiped out all life, leaving the planet a desolate wasteland. Survivors turned to scavenging, and rumors spread about a hidden treasure buried beneath the ruins. In the Nintendo 64 version, the player’s mission is to hunt down and eliminate the looters who are racing to claim that treasure. The game blends first‑person shooting with a grim, post‑apocalyptic narrative as you fight through abandoned cities and underground complexes.
