Summary

FIFA '99 introduced an elite competition called the European Dream League, pitting twenty of the continent’s strongest clubs against each other in a season‑long showdown. It also debuted a “Rest of Europe” block that gathered teams outside the main leagues, many of which appeared in the 1998‑99 UEFA Cup, Champions League or Cup Winners’ Cup.

Visually, the game stepped up from its predecessor with basic facial animations, varied player heights and refreshed kits and emblems—though the latter remained unlicensed. These cosmetic tweaks gave each side a more distinct look on the pitch.

Players could build their own cups and leagues, hand‑picking any clubs they wanted to compete. This level of customization added a personal touch to every match.

The Malaysian league vanished, making room for the Belgian First Division and Portugal’s Primeira Liga, a move that later sparked a licensing dispute in Portugal. These additions broadened the international flavor of the roster.

Critics responded positively, with GameRankings aggregating scores in the low‑to‑mid 80s percent range across platforms, marking the title as a well‑received entry in the series.
