Summary
You line up against the fiercest opponents of the 1999 Formula One season, racing on every authentic circuit from that year – including the brand‑new Sepang track in Malaysia – with all 22 drivers and 11 teams faithfully represented. The game tries to capture the feel of a real Grand Prix, offering eight tweakable technical settings per car and a damage model that can even set a vehicle on fire if you push it too hard.
Two distinct play styles sit side by side: an ultra‑realistic simulation mode that rewards careful braking and tire management, and an arcade‑style mode that lets you crash spectacularly and race with forgiving physics. Solo, Time Attack, World Championship, Split‑Screen Duel and a helpful Driving School round out the options, while a ghost‑rider feature lets you chase the best lap time set by either the AI or your own previous run.
The AI was ambitious – it mirrors each driver’s 1999 performance and can make realistic mistakes – but early reviewers slammed its inconsistency and the buggy damage system, and a promised patch never materialised. Despite these flaws, the game’s graphics and true‑to‑life F‑1 physics were praised as some of the most harrowing on the platform.
Multiplayer stretches from a LAN‑linked 22‑car race to a classic two‑player split‑screen showdown, and the soundtrack even includes Garbage’s “Girl Don’t Come.” Although Ubisoft cancelled the U.S. N64 launch, Gradiente Entertainment shipped the console version in Brazil on 31 January 2001, and the title earned mixed scores ranging from 5/10 in Electronic Gaming Monthly to 87% from 4Players.
