Summary

The F‑Zero X Expansion Kit turns the original N64 racer into a sandbox of speed and creativity, but only if you have the rare 64DD attachment. It adds two brand‑new cups—DD‑1 and DD‑2—each packed with twelve tougher tracks, plus an “Edit Cup” where you can line up your own custom circuits.

The real star is the pair of editors: a course editor that lets you sketch curves, hills, half‑pipes and slip zones with a cursor, and a machine creator that mixes front, rear and wing parts across a hundred save slots, letting you fine‑tune performance and even rename your ride. Up to three ghost laps per track are stored, and the soundtrack finally switches from mono to full stereo.

Sharing your creations is a pain—no mouse, no online support—so most players kept their work local. Some character portraits can be swapped with data from Mario Artist 64DD titles, but the whole package stayed Japan‑only, a casualty of the 64DD’s commercial flop.
