Summary
Extreme‑G rockets you into a neon‑lit, intergalactic Grand Prix where plasma‑powered bikes hurtle past 750 km/h. The tracks coil like roller‑coasters, packed with loops, jumps and corkscrews, and they’re littered with an arsenal ranging from reverse missiles to magnetic mines, even the infamous Wally‑Warp that can yank you to the tail of the pack. You start each race with three nitro bursts that can’t be refilled, while an energy shield slowly regenerates, giving just enough breathing room for frantic combat.
The single‑player suite asks you to dominate three championship ladders—Atomic, Critical Mass and Meltdown—unlocking secret riders and cheats as you climb Novice to Extreme. Multiplayer throws in capture‑the‑flag and battle modes, though reviewers noted frame‑rate choppiness when four players clash.
Critics praised the frenetic speed, looping track design and Tron‑like bike aesthetics, even as they faulted the fog and occasional slowdown; the original trance soundtrack still pumps the adrenaline. By late 1998 the title had sold 700 k units in the U.S., and it resurfaced in 2024 via the Nintendo Classics service.
