Summary
Extreme‑G 2 (also known as Extreme G: XG2) cranks futuristic racing up to blistering 999 mph, letting you hear a sonic boom when you breach the sound barrier. The plasma‑charged, Tron‑styled bikes each have distinct handling, armor and traction, plus an energy meter split between a regenerating shield and a primary weapon—lose your shield and you explode on impact. The game packs eight revamped tracks—urban megacities, marshlands, underwater caverns and more—plus wider, faster layouts, a rear‑firing rocket, magnetic mines, and even a picture‑in‑picture rear view for missile cams.
You can choose from ten customizable bikes, three hidden ones, and an all‑new roster of pilots, then chase ghosts of your own best laps with the built‑in Ghost Racer feature. Modes include a progressive championship, an arcade‑style shoot‑'em‑up against lunar drones, split‑screen multiplayer, and a pure death‑match, each giving three Nitro boosts per race. The N64 version earned a mixed reception; IGN panned its frame‑rate and filtering, yet it was a finalist for Console Racing Game of the Year before losing to Gran Turismo. Note: fast flashing objects may trigger photosensitive seizures.
