Summary
Donald Duck: Goin' Quackers (aka Donald Duck: Quack Attack in Europe) feels like a kid‑friendly Crash Bandicoot. The N64 version offers twenty‑four stages in four themed warp rooms—Duckie Mountain, Duckburg, Magica DeSpell’s Manor and Merlock’s Temple—each ending with a boss. Levels switch between side‑scroll and simple 3D views, and bonus rooms let you race past a bear, a Beagle Boys’ truck, a ghost hand, or a statue head.
You begin with four lives that can be increased by hidden items; a second hit on an enemy triggers Donald’s angry spin before the next hit costs a life. Unlockable outfits change cutscenes and idle actions, even giving Donald a tourist‑camera pose.
Ubisoft Casablanca built the game on an optimized Rayman 2 engine, marking the first console title created in Africa. Daniel Masson composed a lively soundtrack, though the N64’s MIDI implementation played many instruments at the wrong pitch—fans released a fix in 2024.
Reviews averaged about 70 %, praising the bright cartoon graphics and music while noting the low difficulty and visual quality lag behind the original Rayman engine.
Storyline
Goin' Quackers kicks off with Donald Duck, his lucky rival Gladstone Gander, and inventor Gyro Gearloose watching TV reporter Daisy Duck uncover the mysterious Aztec‑styled, mechanized temple ruins belonging to the evil magician Merlock near a volcano. As Daisy narrates the discovery, Merlock kidnaps her. Gladstone rushes off to rescue Daisy before Donald, who relies on Gyro’s new Tubal Teleport System to track the sorcerer. The device, however, is too weak to reach Merlock’s lair, so Donald must place antennas around the world to boost its power.
While hunting for the antenna sites, Donald competes with Gladstone, undoes Merlock’s spells on Huey, Dewey, and Louie’s toys, and battles bosses such as the Beagle Boys and Magica De Spell. After gathering enough power, he finally confronts Merlock, defeats the villain and rescues Daisy. The temple collapses, and Gyro teleports the trio back to his lab, where Daisy rewards Donald with a kiss.
