Summary

Dark Hyrule Fantasy is a fan‑made ROM‑hack of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time that aims to reshape Hyrule into something never seen before. Launched by the duo E‑Gor and Spire in October 2017, the project builds on the world‑building ideas left over from Project Third Quest, swapping the classic map for an entirely new layout, fresh characters and a brand‑new storyline where a looming threat forces the land into darkness before a bright light emerges. The creators promised a full‑conversion experience that feels like a brand‑new "Zelda 64" while still honoring the original’s mechanics. Unfortunately, development on the mod was halted, and the team decided to pivot the concept into an original title called Dark Haven Fantasy, rebuilding it from the ground up in the Godot engine. I’m always amazed by how much imagination can be poured into a single N64 classic, and DHF remains a fascinating glimpse of what could have been.
