Summary

All Star Tennis '99 lets you step onto four classic court types—grass, clay, hard and the quirky Rebound Ace—and face off as eight real‑world ATP and WTA stars such as Mark Philippoussis, Richard Krajicek, Conchita Martínez and Jana Novotná, plus four fictional pros. The game’s control set covers the basics—lob, volley, smash and serve—but also rewards you with an energy point after every rally win, letting you unleash one of two character‑specific specialty moves. For a chaotic twist, the Bomb Tennis mode drops a timed explosive where the ball lands, sending the unlucky player sprawling for a few seconds. Multiplayer is generous: you can pair up for four‑player doubles or throw the whole crew into an eight‑player singles or doubles tournament. Beyond the standard matches, the World Tour mode strings together eleven international competitions, giving the experience a tour‑like feel. The US and European releases sport Michael Chang on the cover, while the French edition features Yannick Noah. Though it was the sole tennis title on the N64 until Mario Tennis arrived, critics were split—praise for its variety was tempered by complaints about clunky controls.
