Summary
Aidyn Chronicles: The First Mage drops you into a fully 3D world where you can guide any of 13 distinct characters, though the story follows the orphaned squire Alaron. Exploration feels open‑ended, with outdoor areas, interiors and a day‑night cycle that visibly changes lighting and enemy behavior.
When random encounters happen, the game switches to a separate turn‑based screen. Position matters – transparent borders show how far each party member can move, height advantages boost attacks, and solar or lunar alignments shift strength according to the time of day. Spells create area‑of‑effect zones displayed as a red flame, and any character that falls in battle is lost forever, making each fight a true risk.
The ambitious scope earned mixed reviews; some praised the variety of characters and the blend of strategy and exploration, while others felt the massive content became overwhelming and the pacing tedious.
Storyline
Aidyn Chronicles: The First Mage follows Alaron, a young squire who sets out to find the missing farmer Kendall. Goblins poison him, and he awakens in healer Oriana’s hut, where she tells him ordinary medicine can’t cure the toxin. King Phelan then orders Alaron to seek the Mirari of Erromon for help.
In Erromon, Mirari king Txomin sends Alaron to clear goblins from the mountains and rewards him with the Stormbreaker, a blessed branch that calms any storm. He falsely claims to know the naming wizard Cradawgh and instead points Alaron to the sorceress Ardra in Talewok. Ardra discovers Alaron is a Wildling with no True Name and sends him to Port Saiid.
A storm‑tossed boat drops the party on Chaos Isle before they finally reach Cradawgh’s island, where the dying wizard urges Alaron to find the Jundar king Zaratas. Alaron retrieves the Golden Horn of Kynon, plays it for the dragon Rooughah, and finally learns his True Name: Alaron.
Armed with his name, Alaron returns to Gwernia, defeats the jealous Prince Sheridan, and slays the Chaos leader Pochangarat. King Phelan, mortally wounded, names Alaron his heir before dying, and the game ends with Alaron’s coronation.
