Summary
Wild Gunman is a Nintendo light‑gun shooter that traces its roots back to Gunpei Yokoi’s 1974 electro‑mechanical arcade cabinet. Nintendo reimagined that bulky experience for the home market, first on the 1984 Famicom with a Beam Gun attachment, then as an NES launch title in 1985 using the Zapper. The game offers three distinct duels: GAME A pits you against a lone outlaw, GAME B adds a second challenger, and GAME C throws an entire gang at you. Play consists of a tense pause as the opponent’s eyes flash, a "FIRE!!" cue appears, and you must pull the trigger exactly at the right moment—drawing early renders the showdown unwinnable and the duel instantly skips to the next. Its timing‑driven design grew out of Nintendo’s Laser Clay Shooting System and even appeared on the PlayChoice‑10 arcade cabinet, cementing Wild Gunman as an iconic early example of home‑screen shooting fun.
Storyline
Wild Gunman drops you into a stylized Wild West where you play a lone gunslinger facing off against a line‑up of outlaws. Each showdown starts with the opponent’s eyes flashing, the visual cue that tells you exactly when to pull the trigger. React too slowly or draw before the flash and the duel is lost forever, making timing the core challenge. The game ramps up the pressure by pitting you against everything from a single duelist to an entire gang in rapid succession. These bite‑size shoot‑outs capture the feel of classic Western standoffs while keeping the action tight and unforgiving.
