Summary

Wacky Races is an NES platformer that lets you steer the mischievous dog Muttley through three distinct zones—Hip Hop, Splish Splash and Go Go America—chosen from a simple map screen. Each zone is a string of bite‑and‑jump stages (three in the first two zones, four in the last) that culminate in a boss fight against one of the other cartoon racers. By gathering bones you can swap Muttley’s basic bite for a Gradius‑style bomb, a soaring "bark shot," a tail‑glide, or extra health, adding a surprising layer of strategy to the run‑and‑jump formula. The title screen even plays the Japanese dub’s theme song, giving the game a quirky nostalgic flavor. Critics were mixed: Famitsu gave it 28/40, GamePro 17/25 and Nintendo Power 3.8/5, noting that while the game feels standard—only a fraction of the fun of Super Mario—it still offers a fun, cartoon‑faithful adventure for fans of the series.
