Summary
Tsuppari Wars, sometimes called "Delinquent Wars," is a quirky 8‑bit action title that blends board‑game strategy with street‑fighting flair. After naming your character and picking a face for the gang leader, you choose a colored gang (red, blue, or green) and vie for control of a Risk‑style map made up of eight islands and bridges. Territories change hands by eliminating rival gang members, and when a leader falls the remaining thugs turn gray, becoming neutral zones that defend themselves but can’t launch invasions.
Movement is turn‑based: you can shift members between territories or end your turn outright, even emptying a region to leave a blank gray space. When two leaders clash, the game switches to a dedicated fighting engine where you can summon oddball effects—a motorcycle, a thunderstorm, or even a police riot squad—to tip the scales. Each brawl runs on an invisible timer; if time expires without a winner, the fight ends in a stalemate and the map stays as is.
Three difficulty levels keep the AI challenging, and matches can involve two or three colored gangs, never just one. The side‑mode focuses purely on the fights, offering 1‑player or 2‑player "Taiman Battle" where you pick five fighters from a roster of twenty and battle until the opponent’s last combatant falls.
Despite its Japan‑only release, the game’s blend of tactical conquest and arcade‑style duels feels like an early, weapon‑free cousin of modern gang‑simulation titles, delivering a surprisingly deep experience for a Family Computer classic.
Storyline
In Tsuppari Wars (ツッパリウォーズ), the goal is to seize every rival gang’s turf and take down the evil gang leaders. When you defeat a main leader in either the standard Tsuppari Wars mode or the Tsuppari Suku (ツッパリスク) mode, the surviving members turn gray, lose their leader, and their former lands become neutral zones marked by a number that shows the strength of these "neutral gangs." These neutral gangs will fiercely defend their territory, but they cannot launch invasions against the colored gangs—red, blue, or green. To claim a neutral area, a colored gang must clear out all the gangsters there, and any planned invasion can be aborted simply by answering "no" when prompted with the battle prompt (たたかい?, "Struggle").
