Summary

Thundercade (aka Twin Formation) feels like an intense road‑trip shooter on the NES. You rev a gun‑laden motorcycle, side‑car cannon in tow, while a B‑7 bomber provides occasional back‑up fire. The action forces you through four distinct zones—a chaotic city, a fortified military base, dense woodlands, and finally the looming fortress that guards a nuclear power plant.

Each level piles on varied foes: foot soldiers, jeeps, tanks and even a massive submarine boss that swallows the screen. As you blast through the hostile terrain you can upgrade your machine‑guns, giving the ride a real sense of progression. The ultimate goal is a high‑octane rush to the plant where you must wipe out the terrorist crew and defuse the threat.

Although the original arcade cabinet topped Japanese tables in 1987, the NES conversion lets home players enjoy that fast‑paced vertical scroll with a distinctly motor‑centric twist.

Storyline

The arcade flyer for Thundercade sets the scene after a 199X treaty supposedly eliminated all nuclear weapons. Yet a northern nation is suspected of secretly continuing development. In response, the United States dispatches the U.A.G. elite unit, which consists of an armed motorcyclist and a support bomber, to neutralize the hidden arsenal.

The NES manual frames the action as Operation Thundercade, a special‑forces mission. Players join the force to stop the Atomic Age Terrorist Organization of Miracali (AATOM) and its nuclear threat. The goal is to destroy the enemy’s weapons and restore peace.
