Summary

Adventure Island II (known on the Game Boy as Takahashi Meijin no Bouken Jima II) builds on the original’s simple run‑and‑jump formula by adding a surprisingly deep inventory system. Before each stage you can pick which rescued animal companions and stone hammers to bring, turning the usual sprint into a strategic load‑out. The game drops the checkpoint mechanic entirely—if you die you start the stage over, which makes the hidden eggs that conceal items and keys feel like true lifelines. Keys open bonus rooms, shortcuts, or secret zones, and the stage‑select screen lets you choose from ten spinning eggs for extra points after you finish.

New underwater and vertical‑scrolling sections expand the world, and you can backtrack within a level but only up to a set limit, keeping the pacing tight. Defeated bosses don’t stay put; they shuffle to another area, forcing you to stay on your toes. Four dinosaur allies are summoned via playing‑card suits hidden in eggs: a blue camptosaurus (heart) that attacks with its tail and walks on ice, a red camptosaurus (spade) that breathes fire and swims over lava, a pteranodon (clover) that flies and drops stones, and an elasmosaurus (diamond) that thrives underwater and speeds through the water.

Storyline

Takahashi Meijin no Bouken Jima II (known in the West as Adventure Island II) follows Master Higgins as he learns that his girlfriend Tina has been kidnapped by the Evil Witch Doctor’s followers. Determined to rescue her, Higgins sets out on a daring quest across a chain of eight treacherous islands.
Each island is ruled by a different monster minion, but four friendly dinosaurs will lend their aid to any adventurer who can defeat the oppressors. As Higgins battles through the perilous terrain, the dinosaurs become valuable allies in his fight against the Witch Doctor’s forces.
The ultimate goal is simple yet urgent: defeat the evil minions, reclaim the islands, and bring Tina safely back home.
