Summary

Sword Master bursts onto the NES as a fast‑paced side‑scrolling action title that leans heavily on timing your sword swing and shield block. The game’s biggest visual flair is its parallax scrolling—rare for the system—which gives the forests and castles a surprising depth.

You battle through seven distinct stages, from dark woodlands to a cursed town and finally up multiple tiers of a villain’s stronghold. Enemies range from giant bats and wolves to skeleton warriors, evil knights and lizard‑men, demanding quick reflexes and strategic positioning. Power‑ups let you temporarily shift into a mage, unleashing offensive spells that add a layer of tactical variety.

What really stands out is how the title mixes classic medieval fantasy aesthetics with tight, shield‑first combat while still feeling fresh on the 8‑bit hardware. Those familiar with retro platformers will appreciate the tight controls, diverse enemy design, and that satisfying scroll effect that keeps the action feeling brisk and expansive.

Storyline

The Sword Master follows a lone knight summoned to the realm of Eledar. His mission: defeat an evil wizard who has called forth the demon god Vishok and rescue Princess Aria, the king’s daughter.

The hero battles his way through dense forests, quiet villages, and the outskirts of the dark castle that houses the sorcerer. Each area tests his skill with blade and resolve.

In the final confrontation the knight shatters the wizard’s power and banishes Vishok, securing peace for Eledar and reuniting Princess Aria with King Aragon.
