Summary

Super Star Pro Wrestling first landed on the Famicom in late 1989, bringing a roster of puroresu legends straight from Japan’s AJPW and NJPW scenes. When the game crossed the Pacific a year later, it was rebranded as WCW Wrestling for the NES, swapping most of the Japanese stars for a different lineup. I love how the original version lets you step into the shoes of icons like Antonio Inoki, Giant Baba, Stan Hansen and the Road Warrior duo, giving a nostalgic glimpse of late‑80s Japanese wrestling. The developers took a few liberties – several birthdates are off, and Big Van Vader’s hometown and birthday are deliberately omitted to protect his gimmick. Interestingly, the only wrestlers that survived the localization are Road Warrior Hawk and Animal, making them the sole bridge between the two versions.
