Summary

When Sunsoft brought Spy Hunter to the NES, they didn’t stop at a straight port – they baked its high‑speed chase DNA into a new title, Super Spy Hunter, and teamed up with Bally Midway to get it out worldwide. The game drops you into a “super spy car” that isn’t just a gun‑metal ride; it can morph into a boat or a plane whenever the track demands it, keeping the action a relentless vertical scroll. Enemy forces feel more like a well‑funded terror squad than random traffic, with armed cars, trucks, even helicopters barreling toward you. Scattered along the way are power‑ups that boost both offense and defense, letting you swap between machine‑gun blasts and defensive shields on the fly. Sunsoft later reused the formula in Battle Formula, but the original Super Spy Hunter remains a rare, fast‑paced showcase of early 80‑era hybrid vehicular gameplay.
