Summary

The Super Pitfall: 30th Anniversary Edition is a lovingly crafted ROM hack by nesrocks that brings the 1986 Famicom classic onto modern NES hardware, emulators, and even Power‑Pak cartridges. While the core map layout stays true to the original, the hack refreshes the experience so it feels at home on today’s screens.

New pixel art replaces the dated sprites, and a fresh soundtrack gives each jungle segment its own vibe. Items that once vanished into thin air are now fully visible, and the old invisible warps have been turned into doorways you can actually walk through. A small HUD now tracks the items you’ve collected, progress saves automatically, and a handful of long‑standing bugs have been squashed, resulting in smoother performance.

I love hunting for the subtle tweaks that differentiate this version from the 1986 original—each hidden change feels like a secret handshake between the past and the present, while the spirit of exploration remains exactly as it was.
