Summary
Super C (the NES port of Super Contra) throws players back into the war against the alien Red Falcon, now bent on conquering Earth. This version adds three vertically‑scrolling levels not seen in the arcade – a high‑tech base, a snowy mountain and an alien nest – each topped with brand‑new bosses. Power‑ups mirror the original game but the fire‑ball gun shoots a single fireball that can be charged for a massive spreading explosion; Rapid Bullets, Barrier and Special remain useful, and a hidden code hands the player ten lives on the NES (thirty in Japan). The PAL release, renamed Probotector II, swaps humans for robots, and all regions include a hidden sound‑test mode. Thanks to Hidenori Maezawa’s rearranged soundtrack, the title survived long after its 1990 debut, later appearing on the Wii, Wii U, 3DS Virtual Consoles, the NES Classic Edition, Contra 4’s DS bonus, and the Contra Anniversary Collection.
Storyline
Super C drops players back into the chaos a year after the Red Falcon showdown. Bill Rizer and Lance Bean receive orders to infiltrate an allied base that has been seized by alien forces, which have possessed most of the stationed troops.
While battling their former comrades‑in‑arms, the duo also confronts a new, mutated strain of the alien creatures from the previous mission. The mission’s goal is to stop the Red Falcon Organization’s renewed invasion and reclaim the base. The game blends fast‑paced shooting with the familiar side‑scroll action that defined the series.
