Summary

Stinger, the North American incarnation of Konami’s TwinBee sequel, blends vertical and side‑scrolling action in a way that still feels fresh. Up to three players can join the chaos: the first two pilot the iconic TwinBee and WinBee with standard pads, while a third can hop into GwinBee via the console’s expansion port. The game’s rhythm shifts between soaring side‑scrollers (stages 1, 3, 7) and classic vertical runs, but the controls stay consistent—press A to fire hearts in the side sections, or drop bombs in the vertical ones. Power‑ups come from shooting clouds that drop bells, each color granting a distinct boost, from speed to twin cannons, lasers, mirror fire, or a protective barrier. Bonus items like moons and stars add three‑way or five‑way shots, and when two ships line up they unleash a satisfying ripple laser that cuts through enemy swarms.
