Summary

Space Harrier on the NES thrusts you into a nonstop, third‑person rail shooter where you pilot a jet‑propelled hero through a kaleidoscopic world of checkerboard plains, towering trees and stone pillars. Your under‑arm laser cannon lets you fly and fire at the same time, so you’re constantly dodging a bizarre menagerie—prehistoric beasts, Chinese dragons, flying robots, geometric shapes and alien pods—while racing forward.

Each of the eighteen stages feels like a frantic sprint, with fifteen ending in a boss that must be taken down before the next surreal landscape appears. Two bonus levels swap the gun for an invincible cat‑like dragon named Uriah, letting you smash obstacles for extra points. The game’s relentless pace and vivid visuals make it a standout arcade‑style experience on the Famicom/NES.

Storyline

In a distant realm, a tranquil land was home to peaceful dragons. Their serenity is shattered when vicious creatures launch an assault intent on wiping the dragons out completely. As the last hope, you step into the role of Space Harrier, the heroic defender. Armed with nothing but your resolve, you must battle the onslaught and protect the dragons from extinction.
