Summary

Somari, often called Somari the Adventurer, is a rogue NES platformer that swaps Sonic’s blue blur for Nintendo’s own plumber while keeping the original’s high‑speed DNA. Mario can spin‑dash, sprint through three‑act zones and collect 100 golden rings to unlock bonus stages, but a single hit still strips him of up to three rings, making every run feel like a tightrope act. The level layouts are lifted straight from the 1991 Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis game, with a few off‑screen secret rooms that nod to Mario’s own world, and each third act culminates in a showdown with Dr. Robotnik.

The soundtrack is a rough NES‑style reinterpretation of the Sonic score, and a Taiwanese trademark filed in 1994 hints at its semi‑official circulation. Distributed as a bootleg across Asia, Russia and Eastern Europe, Somari has become a cult favorite among emulation fans, praised for its daring crossover despite notorious difficulty spikes and finicky controls.

Storyline

In the NES title Somari, you take on the role of a heroic character racing through the fictional South Island. The central conflict pits you against the mad scientist Dr. Robotnik, who has hatched a scheme to transform every animal on the island into hostile robots. Your mission is to battle through his mechanized minions and ultimately stop Robotnik’s twisted experiment. Each stage is split into three distinct acts, giving the gameplay a clear rhythm and progression. The third act of every level culminates in a showdown with Dr. Robotnik himself, serving as the boss fight that tests your skills before moving on to the next area.
