Summary

Snow Brothers drops you into a series of 50 fixed‑screen levels where the only tool is a puff of snow. I spend most of the time lobbing snow at monsters until they become fully coated, then I roll them into hefty snowballs that can crush everything in their path—even the tougher bosses. If I leave a foe alone, it will defrost and become far more aggressive, so timing the snow‑ball attack is essential. The game even throws an invincible pumpkin head at you when you stall, spawning untouchable ghosts that force you to keep moving.

The NES port, titled Snow Brothers in the West, was coded by Soft House and hit North American shelves in November 1991 under Capcom’s label. It adds a quirky opening that explains the brothers were human princes cursed by King Scorch, and it sprinkles in power‑up potions that boost speed, snow supply, or grant a temporary balloon‑like flight. Clearing a screen with a single snowball drops bonus cash from the sky, while hidden secrets keep high‑score hunters coming back for extra lives.

The arcade original earned a Gamest award, cultivated a cult following and even spurred a sequel and modern revivals now owned by Tatsujin.

Storyline

Snow Brothers (often referred to simply as Snow Bros.) on the NES tells the tale of twin princes, Nick and Tom, who are cursed by the evil demon King Scorch and transformed into living snowmen. The villain also kidnaps the twin princesses—Puripuri and Puchipuchi in some versions, known as Teri and Tina in the NES storyline—forcing the brothers to embark on a rescue quest.

Armed with the ability to hurl snowballs, Nick and Tom battle through 50 distinct stages filled with monsters, traps and platforming hazards. Each level requires them to roll snow into enemies, build snowmen allies, and navigate icy terrain while searching for the captive princesses. Ultimately, the brothers must defeat King Scorch to break the curse and restore peace to their kingdom.
