Summary

Skate or Die! drops you onto a wild, multi‑event skate showdown that feels like a mash‑up of a pro‑circuit, a Mad Max road race, and a samurai‑style alley brawl. You can grind ramps, launch aerials, race downhill through parks or gritty streets, and even duke it out in a pool joust where you literally knock opponents off their boards. Four quirky skaters populate the roster – Rodney Recloose with his purple mohawk, his son Bionic Lester and his crew, plus the beginner‑friendly Poseur Pete and the tougher Aggro Eddie – each bringing a different flavor to the head‑to‑head challenges.

Behind the scenes, EA’s first internally built title was born from Trip Hawkins’ desire to ride the wave of Epyx’s sports hits, with producer Don Traeger borrowing the idea from Atari’s 720° arcade game. Rob Hubbard scored the original title screen, while Konami’s Ultra Games handled the NES conversion, adding Kouji Murata’s chiptune remix for the Ricoh 2A03 chip. The console version smashed a million copies and later resurfaced on the Virtual Console, cementing its place as a nostalgic skate‑boarding staple.
