Summary
Silver Surfer on the NES blends horizontal and vertical scrolling shooters into a demanding, pulse‑pounding experience. The only control you have is moving the cosmic rider across the screen while he fires silver pellets straight ahead, but the game crams clever depth with power‑ups: the "F" icon boosts firepower, "S" speeds up movement, smart bombs clear the field, and collectible Orbs become optional fire units that can be flipped to shoot forward, backward or sideways with the B button. Each level pauses for a mini‑boss showdown, and a final super‑villain caps the third segment, making timing and positioning critical. A password system unlocks upgrades—including occasional invincibility—while the acclaimed soundtrack keeps the tension alive. Even decades later, the high difficulty and dynamic music keep me coming back for one more run.
Storyline
Silver Surfer (NES) follows the cosmic herald as he patrols the galaxy for Galactus. When Galactus summons him, the Surfer learns that beings from the Magick Dimension are about to breach reality and threaten all life. To stop the invasion he must gather the scattered pieces of a mysterious Cosmic Device. The fragments are guarded by the villains Reptyl, Mephisto, the Skrull emperor Kylor, the Possessor and Fire‑Lord, each in their own domain.
After clearing the initial stages, Galactus sends the Surfer on a final quest into the Magik Domain. There he confronts a giant purple boss wielding a handgun, an original creation that hints at Mister Sinister. Defeating the foe secures the remaining piece of the device, which the Surfer then hides to keep it from falling into the wrong hands.
