Summary

Shufflepuck Café is a quirky air‑hockey game that first appeared on the Macintosh before landing on systems like the Amiga, Atari ST, and even the Famicom. Its title was meant to evoke table shuffleboard, but the action revolves around whacking a puck back and forth with a mouse‑controlled paddle.

You can dive straight into a tournament against a cast of flamboyant characters, or opt for single‑player practice to probe each opponent’s weakness. Matches are won when one side scores fifteen points, each point marked by a glass shield shattering on the loser’s end.

The eight regular challengers range from the nervous, glasses‑clad Skip Feeney to Visine Orb, a jittery green alien, and Lexan Smythe‑Worthington, a lizard‑like playboy who drinks champagne mid‑match. The pig‑like General (Eneg Doowtrop) fights with militaristic fervor, while the ethereal Nerual Ttoille mirrors your shots. Princess Bejin uses telekinesis for her serve, and the bike‑hard‑biker Biff Raunch stands as the unbeaten champion.

A hidden cheat menu lets you tweak wins, losses, or points, and the series later resurfaced as Shufflepuck Revolution on OS X before fading away.

Storyline

Shufflepuck Café puts you in the shoes of an inter‑galactic salesman whose ship has broken down far from any help. The only phone in sight is inside the eponymous café, so he steps inside hoping to call a breakdown service.
However, eight regulars dominate the tables, each challenging him to a game of air‑hockey before they’ll let him reach the telephone. After defeating every opponent, the salesman finally grabs the phone, repairs his ship and rockets away into the star‑filled horizon. The quirky premise adds a light‑hearted narrative to the fast‑paced Pong‑style action.
