Play Shougi Meikan '93 Online

Summary

Shogi Meikan '93 is a quirky NES title that feels more like a digital shogi encyclopedia than a conventional video game. Developed and published by Hect, the Japanese studio known for its off‑beat releases, it arrived on the Famicom in the early ’90s and quickly became a niche curiosity for anyone interested in the ancient board game.

The cartridge packs a comprehensive reference of shogi pieces, moves, and opening strategies, letting players browse the game’s rich tactical landscape without ever needing a physical board. Its “miscellaneous” label on catalogues hints at the hybrid nature of the software – part guide, part playable demo – making it a hidden gem for retro collectors who love a blend of education and nostalgia.
