Summary
RoboCop Versus the Terminator was slated to join the NES library as a side‑scrolling shooter before it was scrapped, an odd footnote to a franchise that made its way onto Genesis, SNES, Master System and Game Gear. In the concept you would have taken RoboCop’s arm cannon and blasted through waves of Terminators, skinned‑dead drones and the final Skynet core, echoing the gritty tone of the four‑issue crossover comic. Although the cartridge never materialized, the idea of a police‑android battling a futuristic AI resonated with fans of both series, and the released versions earned mixed reviews – EGM gave the SNES version a modest 5.8, praising comic‑book styled cinematics while criticizing the overall intensity. The unfinished NES entry remains a curious ‘what‑could‑have‑been’ for retro collectors.
Storyline
In the SNES version of RoboCop vs. Terminator, the story flips between a bleak future and the present. Resistance soldier Flo is sent back in time to eliminate RoboCop, whose cybernetic tech helped lay the groundwork for Skynet. Skynet anticipates the move and dispatches Terminators to stop her. RoboCop eventually joins forces with Flo, battling Terminators, OCP troops, and various obstacles throughout Detroit. When a Terminator infiltrates the OCP headquarters, RoboCop plugs into a console, only to be trapped and digitized while his body is harvested for Skynet. From within the network he watches Skynet seize power, then hijacks an abandoned robotics plant, rebuilds his chassis, and returns to the future. Using his restored form, he assaults the Terminator‑infested timeline, destroys the Skynet CPU and secures a chance for humanity to rebuild.
