Summary

Ring King (known as King of Boxer overseas) brings the arcade’s over‑the‑top boxing vibe to the NES with a surprisingly deep stat system. Your boxer is defined by punch power, stamina and speed, and each victory hands out power points you can spend to fine‑tune those attributes, letting you craft a fighter that matches your play style. The game’s charm lies in its goofy special moves – a spinning hook, a rope‑launching straight punch, and an uppercut that can fling an opponent out of the ring if timed perfectly, though a mistimed attempt can backfire with massive damage. Between rounds you can recover stamina by mashing the button, and a password lets you pick up where you left off. Two‑player mode pits friends against each other, while the single‑player ladder pits you against a roster of oddly named challengers, each with their own quirks. By 1988 the title had sold over a quarter‑million copies in the U.S., earning a Platinum Award for its popularity.
