Summary
Probotector II : Return of the Evil Forces is the PAL‑only re‑skin of the classic Super Contra run‑and‑gun hit. In true European fashion the human commandos were swapped for sleek battle‑bots, and the enemy troops followed suit, giving the action a distinct chrome aesthetic. The title preserves the original power‑up roster—Rapid Bullets, Barrier and Special—but tweaks the fire‑ball into a brighter plasma blast that feels native to the robot world. Three stages that never appeared on the American NES— a high‑tech base, a snow‑capped mountain and an alien nest— scroll vertically and culminate in a fresh final boss showdown, while the level order and earlier boss fights are shuffled for added surprise. Sound‑track lovers notice a completely reordered score; composer Yuichi Sakakura rewrote the sound driver to keep the samples in tune, and the game even hides a sound‑test mode and a cheat that trades ten lives for a generous thirty on the Famicom version.
Storyline
In Probotector II: Return of the Evil Forces, a year after the showdown with the Red Falcon Organization, Bill and Lance receive a fresh assignment. The duo discovers that alien forces have seized an allied military base, using a mysterious technology to possess the majority of its soldiers. Forced to confront their former comrades‑in‑arms, the heroes also encounter a new, mutated strain of the alien creatures they previously battled. The mission pushes Bill and Lance to fight on two fronts: liberating the base’s troops and stopping the evolving alien threat before it spreads further.
