Summary

Parodius! Da! on the NES takes the classic side‑scroll shooter formula and turns it into a tongue‑in‑cheek carnival. You can pick from four pilots, each handing you a different weapon set: the straight‑laced Vic Viper mimics the original Gradius load‑out, Octopus brings the Salamander‑style arsenal, TwinBee (named Winbee in‑game) offers the bubbly TwinBee armaments, and Pentarou supplies the Gradius II configuration. The familiar bell power‑ups from TwinBee pop up as single‑use items that either wipe the screen clean or unleash a massive beam, adding a playful strategic layer.

The NES port isn’t a straight copy of the arcade; it swaps the quirky boss Chichibinta Rika for Miss Mishitarina and drops a few arcade stages. In return, it sprinkles in a brand‑new amusement‑park level and several hidden bonus rooms that reward exploration. Although the European box art teases a character named Honey Mikayo, she never actually appears in the game. These tweaks give the console version its own quirky charm while staying true to the parody spirit of the series.

Storyline

In Parodius da! the Great Octopus has threatened Earth, prompting a worldwide emergency. You and a band of friends embark on a globe‑spanning search for the truth behind the menace.
Each stage takes you to a different corner of the planet as you hunt down the hidden enemy. The final objective is to confront and destroy the Great Octopus once and for all.
