Summary

Pac‑Mania takes the classic maze chase into an isometric world, expanding the playfield beyond a single screen so it scrolls both horizontally and vertically as you dart around. The fresh twist is Pac‑Man’s ability to jump, letting you vault over a pursuing ghost – though a couple of the newer specters, Funky and Spunky, have learned the trick themselves, and Spunky is impossible to clear by jumping. Power Pellets still flash large and turn the ghosts blue, but the game adds red pellets that double the points you earn from eating those vulnerable foes and green pellets that give Pac‑Man a temporary speed boost.

Five ghosts chase you in the early stages – the familiar Blinky, Pinky, Inky, Clyde and Sue – and later rounds introduce the jumping‑savvy Funky (green) and Spunky (grey). Bonus items pop up in the centre of the maze after you eat a certain number of dots, ranging from classic fruit to special items that award extra points. The four themed mazes – Block Town, Pac‑Man’s Park, Sandbox Land and Jungly Steps – wrap around on the left and right edges, creating endless loops of chase.

When the game landed on the NES in 1990, Westwood Studios handled the port for the North American market, and it earned a perfect score from Poland’s Top Secret magazine, praised for its music, graphics, quirky cut‑scenes, and of course the jump mechanic.
