Summary
Operation Secret Storm drops you into a gritty 2D beat‑'em‑up on the NES, where you control a top CIA operative named George tasked with defending Gulf oil refineries from a looming chemical‑and‑biological threat. The side‑scroll action pushes you through Iraqi back‑drops, gathering ammo and grenades while clobbering stereotypical Arabic enemies that litter the path.
The game earned a odd sort of notoriety: Saddam Hussein’s pixelated cameo placed him eighth on Electronic Gaming Monthly’s “top ten videogame politicians” list, while a super‑hero version of George H. W. Bush was praised by G4 as one of the greatest videogame presidents. These quirky accolades help explain why the title still turns heads among retro collectors.
Storyline
Operation Secret Storm on the NES puts you in the role of secret agent George B., a clear caricature of former President George H. W. Bush. The game’s plot sends him deep into Iraq, where he must fight the Iraqi army and a host of stereotypical Arabic enemies.
Along the way he travels across desert towns and military bases, confronting increasingly hostile forces. The climax features a showdown with Saddam Hussein himself, rounding out the over‑the‑top Cold‑War‑era storyline.
